Atlanta Municipal Court creates new Failure-To-Appear Walk-in calendar

The Atlanta Municipal Court has created a new Walk-in calendar for those who have missed court dates.

The Failure-To-Appear (FTA) Walk-In calendar initiative starts on Monday, July 6.

A press release says, “Defendants with active warrants or those who have missed their court dates will have an opportunity to have their cases placed on a calendar upon visiting the court to resolve their pending matters.”

“It is the goal of our court to provide excellent customer service in the effective and efficient administration of justice,” the Honorable Christopher Ward, Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of Atlanta, is quoted as saying. “It is our duty to provide the citizens of our great city the opportunity to have their matters resolved in a convenient and timely manner.”

ATLANTA – The City of Atlanta Municipal Court announced today the formation of the Failure-To-Appear (FTA) Walk-In calendar. The judges of the Municipal Court unanimously elected to implement this new initiative which begins on Monday, July 6, 2015.

Defendants with active warrants or those who have missed their court dates will have an opportunity to have their cases placed on a calendar upon visiting the court to resolve their pending matters.

“It is the goal of our court to provide excellent customer service in the effective and efficient administration of justice”, said the Honorable Christopher Ward, Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of Atlanta. “It is our duty to provide the citizens of our great city the opportunity to have their matters resolved in a convenient and timely manner.”

The dockets for FTA Walk-In court will be scheduled Monday through Friday at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Defendants will be added to each docket up to one hour before the court’s scheduled start time:

  • 8:00 a.m. cut off time for the 9:00 a.m. docket.
  • 12:00 p.m. cut off time for the 1:00 p.m. docket.

The formation of the FTA Walk-In calendar is one of many collaborative efforts between the Municipal Court of Atlanta Chief Judge, the Honorable Christopher Ward and the newly appointed Interim Court Administrator, Ryan Shepard. The goal of the FTA Walk-In calendar is to provide best- in-class customer service within the Municipal Court system.
