Crews will work on I-75, I-285 this weekend, NAACP march also planned

The Georgia Department of Transportation will have crews on projects along I-75 and I-285 this weekend and there will be lane closures as a result.

Also, GDOT wants drivers to be aware: there will be a “Journey for Justice” march organized by the NAACP taking place over the next few days.

“The Georgia DOT reminds motorists of the NAACP’s Journey for Justice march which will enter Georgia on Saturday, August 8 in West Point Georgia,” the notice from GDOT says. “The march will continue throughout the state on various state and city routes until August 18 at the Georgia/South Carolina border. Motorists are asked to exercise caution when traveling through the designated and approved routes for the marchers.”

The march schedule is as follows …

Day 1 – 8/8/2015

–          Entering the state: North on US 29 (GA 14; 3rd Ave)

–          Right (East) on West 7th St (US 29)

–          Continue onto East 10th Street (US 29) and go over the river

–          Left (North) on West Point Road (US 29) (GA 14) to La Grange

–          Left (North) on Morgan Street in La Grange

–          Right (East) on Commerce Ave

–          Follow US 29 (GA 14) to Davis Road intersection

–          Approximately 7/10 mile east of Davis Road on US 29 (GA 14) marks 20 miles from start

Day 2 – 8/9/2015

–          US 29 (GA 14) northeast to Hogansville, straight through town

Here’s the full list of traffic projects slated for this weekend, provided by GDOT:

– On SR 316, one westbound lane from Herrington Road to SR 120 and ramps at Sugarloaf Parkway, SR 120, and Riverside Parkway will close continuously from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday for resurfacing;

– On I-285 northbound, one lane and part of the entrance and exit ramps from SR 260/ Glenwood Road to Chamblee Tucker Road will close nightly from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday for striping;

– On the southwest side of I-285, one lane will close on the westbound collector-distributer lane at the I-85 interchange from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday;

– On I-285, two northbound lanes will close from SR 6/ Camp Creek Parkway to South Atlanta Road and two southbound lanes will close from SR 6/ Camp Creek Parkway to the I-20 interchange from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday;

– Two westbound lanes will close on I-20 from Langhorn Street to SR 139/ Martin Luther King Jr. Drive from 9 p.m., Friday, until 5 a.m., Monday;

– On I-20, two westbound lanes from Alcovy Road to SR 12/US 278 and the ramp from Alcovy Road to I-20 will close continuously from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday;

– One northbound and one southbound lane will close on I-85 from SR 139/ Riverdale Road to Cleveland Avenue nightly from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday for striping;

– One lane will also close on the I-85 northbound ramp to I-285 eastbound from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday

– One lane will close on the I-285 eastbound ramp to I-85 northbound from 9 p.m., Friday, until 5 a.m., Monday;

– On U.S. 78, two westbound lanes will close from the I-285 interchange to Memorial Drive from 9 p.m., Friday until 9 a.m., Saturday;

– One lane will close on I-75 northbound at SR 5 SPUR from 9 a.m., until 1 p.m., Saturday for guardrail repairs

– Sign structure work will require two lane closures on I-75 northbound from SR 280/ Delk Road to Windy Hill Road  from 9 p.m., Friday until 7 a.m., Saturday;

– The Express Lanes project will require various lane closures on I-75 northbound and southbound at the Hickory Grove Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 10 a.m., Saturday to place beams;

– The Express Lanes project will also require one southbound lane to close on I-75 at SR 120/ North Marietta Parkway from 9 p.m., Friday until 10 a.m., Saturday;

– Lastly, the Express Lanes project will require I-285 westbound traffic to shift onto the I-285 collector-distributer lanes at the I-75 interchange from 9 p.m., Friday until 10 a.m., Saturday for a pacing operation;

– One lane will close on I-75 southbound from SR 138 to SR 155 from 9 p.m., Friday until 7 a.m., Monday for work on the South Metro Express Lanes;

– On SR 154/ Memorial Drive, one lane will close between Moreland Avenue and Wilkinson Drive and one lane will close on SR 154/ Memorial Drive between East Lake Drive and Candler Road both closures are from 9 a.m., until 3 p.m., Saturday.

– One lane and shoulder will close on Georgia (State Route) 400 southbound at Northridge Road continuously from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday.
