Dear Decaturish,

Did you know that group singing has been proven to lower stress, relieve anxiety and elevate endorphins? It’s also a wonderful way to bond with your neighbors and help bring the joy of music to the whole community. These are just a few reasons why everyone should come and sing with the Oakhurst Community Choir, currently recruiting for our fall 2015 session!

The OCC, established in 2013, is an independent, friendly, non-audition choir welcoming all adults and teens. We would love to see more local residents join our ranks. Like all choirs, we find it harder to recruit low voices than high ones, so the men of Decatur are especially encouraged to come out and give it a go.

Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays at The Solarium, 321 West Hill St from 7.00-8.30pm, beginning September 23rd. We’ll be learning a selection of Christmas carols and other holiday songs to be performed at local events in December.

The membership fee is $35 for the 10-week session. First-time members will also need to purchase three pieces of sheet music (we can provide instructions for how to do this online). For full details, email [email protected]

Thank you for helping us let everyone know about our wonderful choir!

– Holly Scarborough & Alice Reeves, Directors, Oakhurst Community Choir
