DeKalb County changes garbage collection policiesThe DeKalb County Sanitation Department.
DeKalb County residents sticking their garbage and recycling in containers not approved by the county won’t receive service.
The county announced its new collection procedures on Friday, Oct. 16. The announcement follows the completion of garbage can delivery to all residences and the switching of twice a week service of once a week service.
“The DeKalb County Sanitation Division announces it will no longer service third-party or customer-provided garbage or recycling containers placed at the curb for collection on residents’ designated sanitation collection day,” the press release from the county says. “Only county-issued garbage roll carts and recycling containers will be serviced. Residents who have not received a county-issued garbage roll cart will receive a compliance extension beyond the Oct. 19 date. Third-party or customer-provided yard trimmings containers are exempt from this procedure, which takes effect Monday, Oct. 19.”

The press release adds, “The use of secure, durable plastic bags for garbage disposal is permitted with the new procedure. Residents who have already received county-issued garbage roll carts and are not in compliance after Oct. 19 will be issued a notice advising of the use of an unauthorized container.”
If you didn’t receive a new cart, or don’t have a recycling bin, you should contact the county.
“Customers who do not have a county-issued garbage roll cart, or would like to join the recycling program and obtain a county-issued 18-gallon recycling bin should contact the Sanitation Division’s customer service team at 404-294-2900 or [email protected],” the press release says.
