(UPDATE) ‘Suspicious package’ briefly closes Twin Oaks shopping center

A suspicious package that briefly shut down the Twin Oaks shopping center in Avondale Estates was deemed “not a threat” by police officials.

The city of Avondale Estates sent the following alert on the morning of Oct. 1:

Twin Oaks Shopping Center Closed Due to a Suspicious Package

Please avoid the area of East College Avenue at Twin Oaks Shopping Center between Pine Street and Livingstone Place due to a suspicious package in the Twin Oaks Shopping Center.

The city followed up later to say that the shopping center had reopened.

Suspicious Package Not a Threat

The DeKalb County Bomb Squad has found the suspicious package at Twin Oaks Shopping Center to be not a threat. All businesses and roads in the area are open.

My Parents’ Basement, a comic book and craft beer store in Avondale Estates, posted this photo of the bomb squad robot on the company’s Instagram page.
