Atlanta Public Schools posted a graduation rate of 71.5 percent, with 2,116 students out of a class of 2,960 earning diplomas. DeKalb County Schools had a graduation rate of 70.9 percent, with 5,046 students out of a class of 7,115 earning diplomas.

Statewide, the graduation rate rose from 72.5 percent in 2014 to 78.8 percent in 2015, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

According to a press release from Georgia DOE, “This is the first class not required to take the Georgia High School Graduation Test in order to receive a regular diploma, as Georgia moves away from a one-size-fits-all approach to graduation. There is evidence that focusing less on testing, and more on career education and personalized paths to graduation, opens up opportunities for students. The graduation rate for students who complete a Career Pathway is much higher – at 89 percent – than the rate for students who do not.”
