The Georgia Department of Transportation’s plans for weekend construction are taking a backseat to give 100,000 NASCAR fans some room.

“Over 100,000 NASCAR fans will travel to the Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend,” GDOT’s press release says. “In an effort to ease congestion, the Georgia DOT is suspending construction-related lane closures on I-75 northbound and southbound between SR 155 (exit 216) and SR 138 (exit 228). The Georgia DOT suspended lane closures at 5 a.m., Thursday February 25. The suspension will continue through 5 a.m., Monday, Feb. 29.”

Here are the list of projects that are moving forward this weekend, provided by GDOT:

– On I-75, one northbound lane will close between SR 5 Spur and SR 5/I-575 Connection from 1 a.m., until 5 a.m., Monday

– On I-75, two northbound lanes and one southbound lane will close between SR 280/Delk Road and Windy Hill Road nightly from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Sunday

– On I-285, a traffic shift will take place on the westbound collector-distributer lanes to Cobb Parkway from 9 p.m., Saturday until 5 a.m., Sunday

– A traffic pace will take place on the I-285 eastbound collector-distributer lanes from Cobb Parkway to the I-75 interchange. The traffic pace will take place from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday. The traffic pace will require motorists to drive 5 mph -10 mph to allow contractors to work across the interstate lanes.

– On I-575, one northbound lane will close between Ridgewalk Parkway and Sixes Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday

– A flagging operation will take place on Bells Ferry Road under I-75 from 9:30 a.m., until 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday

– On Frey Road, two lanes will close (one lane in each direction) under I-75 from 7 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday and from 11:30 p.m., Saturday until 9 a.m., Sunday

South Metro Express Lanes

– The Georgia DOT is suspending construction-related lane closures on I-75 northbound and southbound between SR 155 (exit 216) and SR 138 (exit 228) from 5 a.m., Thursday February 25 through 5 a.m., Monday, February 29.

I-75/I-85

– One northbound lane will close between North Avenue/Georgia Tech and Spring Street/West Peachtree Street. The exit ramp for North Avenue/Georgia Tech will also close. The closure will take place from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Saturday to allow contractors to change a road attenuator. Message boards will be in place at Pine Street/ Peachtree Street exit to advise motorists to use the Pine Street/Peachtree Street exit as an alternate.

I-75

– Sign structure work will require one northbound and two southbound lane closures between SR 280/Delk Road and SR 120 Loop/ South Marietta Parkway from 9 p.m., Friday until 9 p.m., Saturday;

– Sign structure work will also require two southbound lane closures between the SR 120 Loop/ North Marietta Parkway and the SR 120 Loop/ South Marietta Parkway from 6:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday

– Rolling closures will take place on the northbound and southbound lanes between SR 138 (exit 228) and Cumberland Boulevard. The closures will take place from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Sunday to allow crews to install road pavement markers (RPM). Installing RPMs on the interstate is a slow moving operation; therefore, Georgia DOT contractors will subsequently slow down traffic traveling on I-75 to complete their work. Motorists should expect multiple lane closures at a time and slow down while driving through the work zone.

I-285

– Two lanes will close on the I-285 westbound ramp to I-85 northbound for concrete rehabilitation. The I-85 exit ramp will remain open, but traffic will be detoured to the Pleasantdale Road exit and traffic will merge onto I-85 northbound. Law enforcement will direct traffic as needed on the Pleasantdale Road collector-distributer lane. The closure will take place from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday

– Two northbound lanes will close between SR 8/US 278/Hollowell Parkway and SR 280/ South Cobb Drive from 6 a.m., until 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday for concrete rehabilitation

– Two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane will close between SR 260/ Glenwood Road and the I-20 interchange from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday for sign structure work

I-20

– One eastbound lane and the shoulder will close between SR 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard and the I-285 interchange from 9 p.m., Friday until 7 p.m., Sunday

– Two eastbound lanes will close between SR 139/ Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard from  10 p.m., Friday until 7 p.m., Sunday

– Two eastbound lanes will close between SR 280/ H.E. Holmes and SR 139/ Martin Luther King Jr. Drive from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday for bridge joint rehabilitation

State Routes

– One lane will close on SR 237/ Piedmont Road at its intersection with Habersham Road from 9 p.m., Friday until 5 a.m., Monday
