Avondale Estates Police Department to equip officers with body cameras

Avondale Estates will soon equip officers with body cameras, following a growing trend among law enforcement agencies.
City Manager Clai Brown said the city will purchase the cameras from Taser International. The city will buy 13 body cameras and all equipment and hardware for $16,838.
Last year the city of Decatur hired a local company, Utility Associates, to provide cameras for its police officers. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office has signed a contract with Taser International.
A lawsuit filed by Utility Associates has stalled the roll out of the Atlanta Police Department’s body camera program.
