Avondale Estates officials will attend a training session on the state Open Meetings and Records Acts hosted by the state Attorney General’s Office.

The training session will be held on Wednesday, March 16. It will be held at City Hall, located at 21 North Avondale Road, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“All City boards, commissions and staff will attend an Open Records and Open Meetings Act training class by the Attorney General’s Office,” the announcement from the city says. “There will be a presentation on the Open Records and Open Meetings Acts followed by a question and answer session.”

While the announcement didn’t state any specific reason for the training session, the Downtown Development Authority’s attorney recently admitted that the board inadvertently violated the Open Meetings Act by holding a closed-door session to discuss vacancies on the board.

The Attorney General’s office noted in its response to the DDA attorney that the AG provides Open Meetings and Open Records Act training to public officials.
