Two new businesses could be making their Decatur debut this summer.

Rocket Fizz, a soda pop and candy shop chain, and Found Co. Decatur, a home and body store, are planning to open in the next few months.

Assistant City Manager Lyn Menne said Rocket Fizz, which was founded in California in 2009, will be subleasing space from the Decatur Visitor’s Center on Clairemont Avenue. It could be open for business by the end of the summer.

Menne said the store will have, “More retro-kind of candies that you would remember from the 60’s and 70’s, [and] soda pop.”

The company says its stores are “one-stop shops for all of your soda pop and candy cravings.”

“There are thousands of bottled soda pops and candies from all over America, including some from other galaxies,” the company’s website says. “The gigantic selection will launch you back in time to when you were a kid—even if you are over a hundred light years old. And if you are a kid, don’t plan on growing up when you are inside of a Rocket Fizz store. Rocket Fizz is a lot of fun and nostalgic.”

There will be “retro and gag gifts,” posters and signs.

Found Co. Decatur will open at the shopping center located at 335 West Ponce de Leon Avenue. The owners are Jason Shadix and Alan McArthur. Shadix said the shop could open by mid-July. He said it’s an idea that’s been “25 years in the making.”

“It’s going to be a home and gift shop,” Shadix said. “We’re going to sell some apothecary, bath and body and also do a floral and garden component. It sounds like a lot, but it’s all going to work together as kind of an organic natural mix of items.”

He said he thinks the company is in a good area and noted it has dedicated parking.

“I think we’re going to do well and I think Decatur’s going to be happy,” he said.
