The Georgia Department of Education says that for the first time in state history, the state’s composite ACT scores beat the national average.

“Georgia outperformed the nation in English, reading, and science as well, and scored the same as the national average in mathematics,” a press release from the state Education Department says.

The state’s average composite ACT score was 21.1. The national average is 20.8. Locally, some schools outperformed the state average.

Here are the average composite ACT scores for high schools in our readership area:

Druid Hills High School – 21.3

Decatur High School – 22.8

Lakeside High School – 23.1

DeKalb School of the Arts 24.9
