Construction crews hit a gas line near Sycamore Drive at Hillcrest Avenue, near East Ponce de Leon Avenue, on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 10, causing a portion of the road to close.

The Decatur Fire Department said the gas company pinched off the line. No residents were evacuated.

The city released the following statement about the incident:

There is a broken gas line in the 100 block of Sycamore Drive.

Deputy Fire Chief Stephanie Harpring reports that repairs are currently underway and are expected to take 2-3 hours.

No traffic will be allowed in the area until the line is repaired.
