The owner Rocket Fizz’s new Decatur store tells Decaturish that the soda pop and candy shop chain plans to begin slinging sugar this weekend.

“We’re hoping to open Friday or Saturday,” owner Richard Mashburn said. “We’re ready.”

Mashburn said all that’s left is a walk through with the fire marshal. He said it will be a “soft opening” that will also occur before one of Decatur’s biggest annual events,  the Decatur Book Festival.

“We usually do soft openings because we need to get employees trained and of course we’ll have the Book Festival so it will be a crash course at that time,” Mashburn said.

Rocket Fizz, which was founded in California in 2009, will be subleasing space from the Decatur Visitor’s Center on Clairemont Avenue.

The company says its stores are “one-stop shops for all of your soda pop and candy cravings.”

“There are thousands of bottled soda pops and candies from all over America, including some from other galaxies,” the company’s website says. “The gigantic selection will launch you back in time to when you were a kid—even if you are over a hundred light years old. And if you are a kid, don’t plan on growing up when you are inside of a Rocket Fizz store. Rocket Fizz is a lot of fun and nostalgic.”

There will be “retro and gag gifts,” posters and signs.
