Truman Tavern & Bar, located on the Decatur square, will officially open for business on Aug. 31.

The restaurant replaces Colbeh Persian Kitchen & Bar. Truman is affiliated with the ownership of Calle Latina in Decatur.

The restaurant seats 125 people and has a full bar.

“Truman has reinvented classic, center-of-plate dishes, like the certified Angus Beef Prime Rib and Berkshire Double-Cut Pork Chops, with simple, local ingredients,” a press release from the new restaurant says. “The fish (Chesapeake Bay Crab Cakes, Chardonnay Pouched Flounder) and vegetable (Naked Vegetable Lasagna, House Made California Veggie Burger) dishes add diversity to the menu without sacrificing cohesiveness. The result is an accessible neighborhood eatery hedging the line between steakhouse and tavern.”

The bar will offer vintage cocktails. The restaurant will be serving dinner only on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 and begin lunch service on Sept. 2. Saturday and Sunday brunch will be available soon, the press release says.

The executive chef is Michael Condon of Badda Bing and Calle Latina. According to the press release, Truman Tavern is inspired by his beginnings as a chef in Manhattan. Condon is a Long Island native.

“I want Truman to reflect the old time values that New York City neighborhood restaurants had 30 years ago,” he said in the press release. “The food was superior without being overly complex, and the service was impeccable without being pretentious. Staff remembered the names and preferences of their guests and the atmosphere was deeply rooted in the community.”

Condon will co-own Truman with partners Brian Buchanan and Paul Vinces. The three of them have a combined 70 years in the restaurant business.

“Buchanan spent some 15 years in front-of-house roles and 10 years in the wine and spirit business,” the press release says. “Vinces is the current owner of Calle Latina and once owned Sweet Devil Moon in Oakhurst. All of them have deep roots in City of Decatur.”

The release says Buchannan believes Truman will fill a niche in Decatur.

“All members of the community will feel at home at Truman, from kids and families to the trendy nightlife crowd,” he said in the release. “We specialize in great food, good service, and honest drinks.”

The restaurant will be decorated with artwork procured through the Vincent Art Gallery and will feature work from local artists like Ruth Franklin and Ruby Franklin.

The restaurant is located at 123 East Court  Square. Reservations are available and can be made by calling 404-907-4116. Lunch hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Brunch hours will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Happy hour offerings will be available from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and dinner will be served from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and until 11 p.m. on the weekends.
