The librarians at the 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue, better known as F.AVE, have dedicated a free Harry Potter-themed library in honor of Marty McKinnon, who passed away last year.

The library staff also collected money and made a donation to the American Cancer Society in McKinnon’s honor.

The library has multiple boxes facing in different directions, one for each Hogwarts house and a solar-powered lantern.

“Marty spent 15 years of his life working with kids in City Schools of Decatur, and he loved his time in the media center,” F.AVE Media & Instructional Technology Specialist Corinne Smith wrote in her blog. “Would the Decatur Education Foundation consider funding this project if we applied for a grant? YES, they would! What if we made it a fundraiser to benefit kidney cancer? F.AVE students and faculty stepped up, raising almost $500 that was donated to the American Cancer Society in Marty’s honor.”

Smith sent in these photos of the new free library at F.AVE.
