Decatur’s becoming known as a town for tinkerers.

Maker Faire Atlanta will return to downtown Decatur on Oct. 1. Tech enthusiasts, crafters, and people who like to tinker in general will be presenting their projects. In 2015, Decaturish photographer Jonathan Phillips attended the event and called it, “A family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness.”

The Maker Faire begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. on Oct. 1 and begins at 12 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. on Oct. 2. The Faire is free to attend. It takes place on the Decatur High School football field, the Ebster Gym and courtyard and parking lot, and the park on Trinity Place between Commerce Drive and Electric Avenue, the event’s website says. “Exhibits include robot battles, fiber arts, 3D printing, drone races, woodworkers, hackers, startup companies, makerspaces, retro computer gaming and a hands-on soldering workshop,” the event announcement says. “New this year, attendees will get a chance to screen print their own T-shirt onsite.”
