The Decatur School Board made another property purchase after its regular meeting on Oct 11.

According to a board spokesperson, the board adjourned from executive session and voted to pay $450,000 for a home at 316 S. Columbia Drive in Decatur, Ga.

The listed owner of the home is Matthew Hogben. The lot is .44 acres. It’s near Talley Street, where the School Board owns property. The School Board also owns 314 South Columbia Drive. Possible uses for these properties include building a new elementary school or building a new site for City Schools of Decatur’s early learning program.

A CSD spokesperson said that following the executive session, “[Board Chair Annie Caiola] moved that the Board authorize the Superintendent and Board Chair to exercise any contracts and agreements needed to purchase 0.44 acres (+/-) of property located at 316 S. Columbia Dr, Decatur, GA, 30030, for a purchase price not to exceed $450,000.00, ‘as is,’ with no due diligence period, with seller paying closing costs up to $1,200 and buyer paying remainder, with $0.00 of earnest money and a closing date within 45 days of Board approval and no later than December 21, 2016. Second by Mr. [Garrett] Goebel. Approved unanimously.”

CSD has been working to acquire property to meet its growing enrollment needs. In November of last year, voters overwhelmingly approved a $75 million General Obligation bond to pay for school construction.
