An alert resident helped police locate and arrest a man who is accused of stealing items from a vehicle.

Lt. Jennifer Ross said that on Oct. 15, an officer responded to the 200 block of Kathryn Avenue in response to an entering auto theft. The caller gave a detailed description of the suspect, who was located in the 700 block of Coventry Road.

The victim told police she was on the phone with her neighbor who had called because an unknown man was knocking on her door. The neighbor saw the man walking down the street to the home of the woman who called police. The neighbor had heard a noise in her garage. When the suspect knocked, she did not answer and he left. She checked her vehicle and discovered it had been entered. The vehicle owner reported a bag of change and dollar bills was missing from the center console. The officer found change and dollar bills on the suspect, and the plastic bag, a parking receipt and a PETCO card belonging to the victim were found on the ground in the 700 block of Coventry Road. The victim and witness both positively identified the suspect.

The suspect is Rickie Davis, 54, of Hapeville. He was arrested and charged with burglary, entering auto and possession of marijuana less than one ounce, Ross said.
