Decatur player’s team finishes second at tennis championships

A Decatur resident is part of a tennis team from Sandy Springs, Ga. that placed second at the USTA League Adult 18 & Over 10.0 Mixed Doubles National Championships.

The championships were held at the Hilton El Conquistador Resort in Tucson, Ariz., Nov. 11 through Nov. 13.

“The Sandy Springs team lost to a team from Dallas, Texas, 1-2 in the Championship match,” a press release says. “Earlier in the day, the Sandy Springs team defeated a team from Northern California, 3-0 in the semifinals. They advanced this far by winning their round-robin flight contested Friday and Saturday. The team is captained by Jamie Dockter (Atlanta) and features Carl Abalos (Woodstock), Victor Ventura (Watkinsville), Evgenia Dockter (Atlanta), Mary Gordon (Decatur), Jesse Ferlianto (Smyrna), Jennifer Sinclair (Berkeley Lake) and plays at Mt. Vernon Woods.”
