Decatur Police responded to a report of a kidnapping and armed robbery on Nov. 1.

Lt. Jennifer Ross said police responded to the call at 10:46 p.m. The caller said she had gotten a message from her boyfriend saying he had been kidnapped earlier in the evening but was now safe at home.

” Officers met with the victim who reported that at approximately 8:45 p.m. he was walking southbound on the sidewalk in the 1100 block of Church Street using his cell phone when a gold sedan occupied by three males traveling southbound pulled up next to him and the rear passenger exited the vehicle and snatched his cell phone from his hands,” Ross said. “The suspect ran back towards the vehicle and the victim chased the suspect and grabbed the suspect as he made it back to the vehicle.”

A second suspect jumped out of the front passenger door of the vehicle and pointed a gun at the victim. The first two suspects forced the victim into the back of the sedan. The first suspect demanded credit cards and money. The second suspect pointed a gun at him. There was a third suspect driving the sedan.

The first suspect started kicking and punching the victim, demanding his money and ATM card. The victim handed over his wallet, which contained $1,100 in cash and his ID card.

“The victim stated the vehicle stopped on the road in 3400 block of Memorial Drive and the suspects opened the door and pulled him out of the vehicle and left him stranded on the sidewalk,” Ross said. “The victim reported another vehicle stopped and the driver offered him a ride home, which he accepted. The victim had facial swelling and an abrasion on his side and complained of head pain but refused medical attention.”

Suspect #1: Black male, early-mid 20’s, approximately 5’10, medium build, with his hair in short twists, wearing a blue shirt and black shorts.

Suspect #2: Black male, early-mid 20’s, very slender build, wearing a black hoodie and carrying a handgun.
