Decatur Mayor Patti Garrett has signed a proclamation declaring Nov. 17 as “World Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day” in the city of Decatur.

“I am frequently asked to sign proclamations such as these by Decatur residents,” Garrett said.

The proclamation says that pancreatic cancer is currently the seventh-leading cause of cancer-related death in the world and this year surpassed breast cancer to become the third-leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. It is projected to become the second-leading cause of cancer-related death by 2020.
