More than 1,000 homeless people were treated to Thanksgiving dinner, courtesy of three local businesses.

Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q, Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q and Renewal Design-Build served the meals at the Our House shelter, located at 173 Boulevard NE, Atlanta, GA 30312. The event, called The Day Before, was held Nov.23.

According to a press release, Sysco Atlanta donated 80 turkeys. The event was started by Anthony Hamilton, a jobsite ambassador with Renewal Design-Build, two years ago. The goal was to feed 500 homeless people in Atlanta. Hamilton collected donations from employees and clients. When he brought the idea up again this year, he got the attention of the owners of Jim N’ Nick’s and Fox Bros. They both agreed help out.

“My inspiration for the event came from memories of my own childhood and knowing what it was like to be hungry and in need,” Hamilton is quoted as saying in the press release. “I was helped by many good people along the way, and I wanted to instill the value of caring for others in my two sons. You never know when you may be on the other end and need a helping hand.”

Fox 5 published a photo slideshow from the event. To see it, click here.
