The Center for Civic Innovation recently recognized the Decatur Education Foundation for its mentoring program.

According to a press release, the program is called “The Opportunity Partnership.”

“The program pairs third graders at the Decatur Housing Authority with adult mentors who will serve as matchmakers between the students and the opportunities that exist in our community,” the press release says.

DEF is a non-profit that supports Decatur students through partnerships with the City Schools of Decatur and the local business community.

“The finalists for the Civic Impact Awards represent an amazing group of passionate people who are committed to finding innovative solutions for issues impacting Metro Atlanta,” Executive Director Gail Rothman said in the press release.. “We are honored to be recognized by the greater Atlanta community for our new mentoring program that seeks to close the opportunity gap for underserved students in Decatur. The Decatur community has always been supportive of piloting new ideas to help all children thrive. This award is the culmination of the work of our staff, our board and our amazing donors and volunteers who consistently amaze us with their generosity.”
