Mead Road shooting suspect turns himself in

A man accused of participating in a Dec. 28 shooting at the intersection of Leyden Street and Mead Road is in custody, Decatur Police Lt. Jennifer Ross said.
Billy Lamont Parson, Jr., of Atlanta, 18, turned himself in to the Decatur Police Department last night, Ross said.
Parson is accused of participating in the incident, which occurred around 7:24 p.m. on Dec. 28.

“Officers arrived and located the victim, an adult male, with a gunshot wound to the groin,” Ross said. “The victim initially stated he was robbed but then stated he got into an argument with a group of males over money he owed to someone but could not provide a name.”
In a previous statement, Ross said, “The victim is familiar with the suspects.”
The victim was treated at a local hospital.
A witness reported hearing a gunshot and told police that “four black males who appeared to be in their teens” ran from the scene toward Oakhurst Park. Police have not released details about any additional suspects, citing an active investigation.
