A train hit a car along East Ponce de Leon near Longmeadow Drive in Scottdale.

It happened around 7 p.m. Sunday evening, Jan. 8 and was confirmed by DeKalb County Fire Rescue. It is not known why the car was on the train tracks. The victim, a male, is in “extremely critical condition” a spokesperson for the Fire Department said.

The victim later died from his injuries and was identified as Lianchinkhup Taithul, 67. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, he was a Presbyterian minister.

A reader, Boomer Baird, was at the scene afterward and sent in this photo.

He said first responders removed a single person from the vehicle and administered CPR on the stretcher.
