The Decatur Police Department reports that crime in 2016 decreased 21 percent overall compared with 2015, but the data show a sharp increase in robberies.

There were 26 robberies in 2016, a 117 percent increase over 2015. The Police Department received two reports of rape and one report of a murder. The department cleared – or solved – 19 percent of its cases, down slightly from a 20 percent clearance rate in 2015.

The drop in crime primarily has to do with property crimes. Vehicle thefts decreased by 41 percent and burglaries decreased by 30 percent.

Decatur Police compile these statistics on a monthly basis and they are reported to the GBI and FBI.

Here is the chart showing the crime trends for 2015 compared with 2016.
