The Decatur Police Department reports that a school crossing guard, Maurice Johnson, passed away on Feb. 9.

Johnson has been a crossing guard for seven years and the Police Department said he “was well known to the children of Winnona Park Elementary and Renfroe Middle schools as he helped them cross South Candler Street.”

“Maurice did not have life insurance and his family is working on funds to pay for funeral expenses,” the Police Department said. “If you wish to help, please go to https://www.gofundme.com/showing-love-for-maurice.”
