Over the past two months, DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond and a group of county staff have investigated the causes for several exorbitant water bills.

Coming up on Thursday, Feb. 23, Thurmond will be addressing the Board of Commissioners regarding the water billing crisis. The board will meet in the Maloof Auditorium, located at 1330 Commerce Drive in Decatur at 9:15 a.m.

According to DeKalb County’s press release, Thurmond plans to “discuss the findings that led to the county’s water billing crisis and will present short- and long-term recommendations to address the issues.”

Questions about inaccurate bills or bills delayed by months have led to heated confrontations between residents and county officials during town hall meetings. Due to the high number of disputes, the county temporarily halted disconnections to sort through the issues being reported.
