DeKalb County Schools has offered an explanation about the reported absence of its human resources director.

The county school system says that Leo Brown has been reassigned from Chief Human Capital Management Officer to the Facilities and Operations Division.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution first reported that Brown had not been seen since before the winter break, saying officials would not give an explanation for why he hadn’t been showing up to the office.

In a press release, Brown indicated he’d been experiencing some unspecified health issues.

“I want to thank the DeKalb County School District for the support I’ve received as I have faced some recent health challenges,” Brown said. “I am committed to this organization; and, in my new role I will continue to support the vision and mission of the District.”

Everett Patrick, the former director of Employment Services, has taken over the human resources job on an interim basis. The county has pledged “a national search” to fill the position permanently. The county expects to fill the position by the start of the next school year.
