The owner of the former Oakview Grocery store in Decatur says he is planning to submit a plan to turn the building into one residential living unit and two commercial spaces.

Owner K. Scott went to the Zoning Board in March, but was asked to clarify his plan. When he first discussed the project with Decaturish, he envisioned a three-level development with a mix of commercial and residential spaces. The street level would’ve been commercial space and there would be a residential unit above that. He said the level below could be more commercial space or up to four one-bedroom apartments.

That has been refined into a more modest proposal, but the application before the Zoning Board still included renderings from his earlier plan.

“The board said come back with a clean application. so we know this is the one we’re planning on doing,” he said.

Scott bought the property at 1529 Oakview Road more than a year ago and has been renting it out as space for a pop-up shop. His application with the city will rezone the property as “neighborhood mixed use.”
