A woman visiting her family in Decatur got an unexpected visit from a burglar on Saturday, Decatur Police said.

On Saturday afternoon, April 1, police responded to a call about a burglary in progress in the 800 block of Sycamore Street. The woman told police she was visiting family in Decatur and the family had left an hour prior to the incident.

“The complainant stated she was taking a nap and was awoken by hearing someone enter the side door to the kitchen,”” Lt. Jennifer Ross said. “She got up and walked toward the kitchen and observed an unknown male standing near the kitchen table looking through her purse.”

The woman asked the man what he was doing. He covered his mouth and said, “They told me to come in.”

The woman yelled at the man, telling him to leave. He ran out of the side door onto Mountain View Street toward East Ponce de Leon Avenue. Nothing was reported missing and there were no signs of forced entry.

“The suspect was described as a black male, late teens-early 20’s, slender build, approximately 5’9″, with short hair and a long t-shirt (unknown color),” Ross said.
