The city of Decatur intends to formally dedicate a mural painted on a MARTA overpass at West Trinity Place and a playspace associated with it.

This Sunday, April 23, the city invites the public to the “Under the Bridge Art Party.” It begins at 4 p.m. and will be held at West Trinity Place at Atlanta Avenue. Kids will get a chance to try out the new Kaboom! play space underneath the bridge. There will be ice cream, cookies, lemonade, a bouncy house, a DJ and “fun.”

The city hired Milagros Collective, from Miami and New Orleans, to head up the mural project. The artists are finishing up their work this month.

The mural will cost $30,000, and will be partially funded with a $15,000 grant. The project has had some setbacks. The discovery of lead paint and the subsequent abatement held the project up for several weeks. Work officially began in the middle of November.
