Fire alarm, but no fire, reported at Decatur High

Decatur High students were evacuated Wednesday after a fire alarm went off, but a school system spokesperson said there wasn’t a fire.
Spokesperson Courtney Burnett told Decaturish that a power surge at the school “fried electrical panels” causing them to smoke, which set off the fire alarm. Decatur students were evacuated and the Fire Department responded, but that’s all.
“There’s no fire,” she said.
Burnett said there was a power surge early Wednesday morning. She said she believes the two incidents are related and could possibly have been caused by construction at the school.
