A city of Decatur board that will help finance the $40 million purchase of the United Methodist Children’s home on South Columbia Drive is holding its first meeting on Wednesday, May 10.

The Public Facilities Authority meeting will start at 9 a.m. and will be held at City Hall, located at 509 North McDonough Street. The meeting will be for organizational purposes. The members of the city’s PFA are Cinque Axam, Robert Kennedy, Christa Sobon, Meredith Struby and Leonard Thibedeau.

All meetings are open to the public. The PFA will have the authority to borrow money to finance the purchase. Last month, the mayor and UMCH officials signed the purchase agreement for the property.

Decatur intends to use the property as a public space and will also hold a community input process to determine the specific use of the UMCH campus. As part of the deal, the city has agreed to preserve the grave of UMCH founder Jesse Boring.
