Decatur Police, Fire Departments announce promotions, new hires

The Decatur Police and Fire departments recently promoted several employees and the Fire Department announced some new hires.

Captain Woodruff
Captain Billy Woodruff joined the Decatur Police Department in 2003. Captain Woodruff is a graduate of Georgia College and State University, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and minor in History. Throughout Captain Woodruff’s career with the Decatur Police Department, he has served as a patrol officer, field training officer, accident reconstructionist, patrol sergeant and patrol lieutenant. Captain Woodruff is now assigned as the supervisor over the special units, criminal investigations and communications divisions
Lieutenant Canipe
Lieutenant Dana Canipe joined the Decatur Police Department in 1996. Lieutenant Canipe is a graduate of Georgia State University, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and minor in Mathematics. Throughout Lieutenant Canipe’s career with the Decatur Police Department she has served as a patrol officer, field training officer, patrol supervisor and supervisor over special units. Lieutenant Canipe is now assigned as the supervisor over two patrol teams.
Lieutenant Karolyi
Lieutenant Tim Karolyi joined the Decatur Police Department in 1997 after graduating from Georgia State University with a B.S. in Criminal Justice. Throughout Lieutenant Karolyi’s career with the Decatur Police Department he has served as a patrol officer, field training officer, patrol corporal and an investigator in the criminal investigations division. As a sergeant, he supervised special units and patrol teams. Lieutenant Karolyi is now assigned as the supervisor over two patrol teams.
Sergeant Phillips
Sergeant Richard Phillips joined the Decatur Police Department in 2013 as a veteran officer with five and a half years of service in the U.S. Army and twelve years with the Cleveland Police Department in Ohio. Sergeant Phillips holds a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from Liberty University. Since joining the Decatur Police Department, Sergeant Phillips has served as a patrol officer, field training officer and as a school resource officer. Sergeant Phillips is now assigned as a patrol supervisor over D-Team.
Sergeant Zachery
Sergeant Brandon Zachery joined the Decatur Police Department in 2008. Sergeant Zachery is a graduate of DeVry University, with a B.S. in Business & Accounting. Throughout Sergeant Zachery’s career with the Decatur Police Department, he has served as a patrol officer, field training officer, traffic enforcement officer, criminal investigator and serves as a traffic accident investigator. Sergeant Zachery is now assigned as a patrol supervisor over B-Team.
