According to the release, the South Peachtree Creek Trail winds through Mason Mill Park as a boardwalk along the banks of the creek, connecting the ball fields and parking lot at Medlock Park to the historic Decatur Waterworks and the park’s tennis center.

DeKalb County and the PATH Foundation – an organization that builds off-road paths – collaborated to develop the trail and hope to expand the trail to as far as Emory University, providing the campus with bike and pedestrian access, the release said.

The public is invited to join county officials, parks staff and PATH representatives at the ceremony. Immediately after the ribbon cutting, attendees can join County Commissioner Kathy Gannon on a group walk down the new extension, which is .86 miles one-way.
