Southern Sweets Bakery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year

The celebration will culminate in an event on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their location on 186 Rio Circle, according to the company’s press release.

“We are extremely proud to continue being a part of the ever changing Atlanta restaurant scene,” General Manager Trish Smith said.

According to the release, Nancy Cole founded Southern Sweets in 1992 to bake pies for local restaurants.

Now, it has grown to include a café serving breakfast, lunch and yummy desserts in the original bakery space, while still serving several wholesale accounts. The bakery offers a wide range of regular, vegan and gluten free desserts, too. Cole passed away in 2015, but the bakery is still going strong.

The business says it plans to “move into the next quarter century ready to continue our momentum always focusing on ‘perfect ingredients, simple preparation’ as Ms. Nancy always did,” the press release said.

“[Cole’s] vision and passion for baking lives on through us,” Smith said. “We are excited to take things to the next level over the years to come and to share this milestone with our friends and partners in the community on October 14.”

The event will feature carnival games, food and desserts, along with a pie-eating contest and cake walks.
