The South Peachtree Creek Trail, which connects Medlock Park to Mason Mill Park, will get a new addition this month.

According to the PATH Foundation, a new leg of the trail connecting Mason Mill Park to North Druid Hills Road at Spring Creek Road is almost complete.

“The South Peachtree Creek Trail meanders through Mason Mill Park as a boardwalk along the banks of the creek,” the PATH Foundation’s website says. “It connects the ball fields and parking area at Medlock Park to the historic Decatur Waterworks and the Tennis Center at Mason Mill Park.”

And soon it will go farther than that.

Jonathan McCaig, construction manager at the PATH Foundation, said the segment is 3,100 linear feet of boardwalk. He said the entire project has been in construction since 2008. There’s a proposal to connect South Peachtree Creek Trail to Emory University, he said.

“When completed the trail will allow bike/ped access from scores of neighborhoods directly to the Emory campus,” the PATH Foundation website says.

McCaig said this segment was “100 percent funded” by DeKalb County and the federal government.

The trail is popular with runners. According to Atlantatrails.com, “The paved South Peachtree Creek Trail isn’t the longest running trail in Atlanta …But this trail does rack up major points for its scenic beauty. The trail travels a good bit of its length on a raised wooden boardwalk, that winds through the forest’s treetops beside a tumbling creek.”
