ATLANTA – The City of Atlanta has now lifted the boil-water advisory issued on July 6, 2017 for all areas including the Mechanicsville neighborhood and the Campbellton-Fairburn Road areas. Additional samples taken in these two isolated areas confirmed there was no contamination of the public water system. Water may be used for all purposes without boiling. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has been notified.

A boil water advisory in Atlanta has been partially lifted, but Mechanicsville and Campbellton-Fairburn Road residents still need to boil water until further notice.

Large portions of the city were under the advisory, which was issued July 6. For most of the city, that advisory was lifted on Friday afternoon, July 7, after consulting with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division.

The city said residents still under the advisory should continue to boil water for consumption, but said it is safe to use for bathing and hand washing.

The city expects water testing to be completed Saturday afternoon to determine whether the advisory will be lifted for these neighborhoods. City officials implemented the ban after a power outage at the city’s Hemphill High Service Pump Station caused a drop in pressure on July 6. The system was restored within 40 minutes but the ban remained in effect until today.
