Decatur Approves confidential workers’ compensation settlement for Public Works employee

For the second time this year, the city of Decatur has approved a confidential workers’ compensation settlement.
The most recent settlement involved a public works employee who was injured in August 2015. The settlement was approved June 5. The city, through its attorneys, declined to provide details, saying those records are exempt from disclosure under the state’s Open Records law.
In March, city commissioners also approved a settlement for a firefighter injured on the job in 2013 while responding to a medical call.
The city would not disclose the exact nature of the firefighter’s injury, citing medical privacy rules and declined to disclose the amount of the settlement.
