As qualifying ends in Avondale, mayor pro tem makes a surprising decision to run again

Avondale Estates City Commission elections just got crowded and interesting.
On the last day of qualifying, four more candidates jumped into the race, bringing the total to eight. Mayor Pro Tem Terry Giager qualified to run for reelection, despite indicating earlier this year he would not run again.
The eight candidates are:
– Terry Giager (Incumbent)
– Wilmer Engle
– Joe Anziano
– Ben Dostal
– Lisa Shortell
– Candace Jones
– Paul Brown
– Lionel Laratte
Two commission seats are on the ballot and they will go to top-two vote getters in the winner-take-all election.
The election is Nov. 7 and early voting begins on Oct. 16.
