Attempted robbery of Chinese food delivery driver turns into gunfight in Kirkwood

A routine Chinese food delivery went wrong when the people who ordered the food attempted to rob the driver, resulting in a gunfight that sent the driver and one of the alleged robbers to the hospital.

Both are expected to be OK.

Atlanta Police said the delivery driver works for Hunan Dragon III on Clairmont Road in Decatur. He was delivering food to a residence on Wisteria Way in Kirkwood the night of Sept. 19. Police responded to the call at 10:20 p.m.

“[The delivery driver] was met by females in the driveway and then males appeared,” Atlanta Police said. “Gunfire was exchanged between one of the black male suspects and the victim. The victim was shot in the back and the suspect was shot in the leg. The suspect that was shot was located in a grassy alley near the incident location by Zone 6 Officers. Two handguns were recovered along with multiple shell casings. The suspect and victim were transported to Grady Hospital and were taken into surgery immediately. According to Grady Hospital both are expected to be OK.”
