She attended Tennessee State University (TSU), competing for Women’s Track and Field from 1955 to 1959, and going to the Olympics in Australia in 1956.

Following her personal athletic career, in 1984, she was initiated into the TSU Hall of Fame, and then into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, class of 1987.

“It is with great sadness that we’re losing another iconic Tigerbelle. She will surely be missed,” TSU Director of Track and Field Chandra Cheeseborough-Guice said in an announcement on the TSU website.

A funeral for Holston is set for this Monday morning, Sept. 18 at 10 a.m. The service will be held at Saint Philip AME Church in Atlanta, located at 240 Candler Road SE in Atlanta. A wake will be in the Grissom-Eastlake Funeral Home, located at 227 E. Lake Drive in Atlanta.
