The 5K will begin at the 4/5 Academy at Fifth Avenue (FAVE) at 9 a.m. and end in the Oakhurst Village. The Mayor’s Mile will begin at 9:45 a.m. and end in the Oakhurst Village. Make sure to check out the party at Harmony Park after the races for festivities and awards.

Last year, five mayors participated in the Mayor’s Mile, and this year, FAVE students are invited to participate in Mayor For A Day. This is an essay contest to “prompt them to offer ideas for ways they would improve or change our city as mayor and what they like about living here.”

According to a the event announcement, “Five students will be selected to be the commissioners and our Mayor for the Day. You’ll see them grabbing photos and popsicles on race morning in the Mayor’s tent at Harmony Park.”

You can register for the event at www.oakhurst5a5k.com. The registration rate is $25 for adults, $20 for City Schools of Decatur or City of Decatur employees, and $18 for runners 18 and under. Register by Sept. 21 to secure a race tee shirt.

The race is one of the Decatur Active Living Team Decatur race series, and money raised through the races will go to FAVE’s PTO and the Decatur Education Foundation.
