Decatur Police say the lock down at Renfroe Middle School has been lifted following the arrest of a theft suspect on Friday morning.

Police have arrested Nygel Smith after finding him wedged between two privacy fences in the 300 block of Adams Street.

Residents near the 200 block of Ansley Street were told to lock their doors during the incident.

Earlier this morning, Police Lt. Jennifer Ross reported that, “Renfroe Middle School is currently on lock down due to a foot chase with a theft suspect who ran through the rear of the school property. The suspect did not run into the school. He was last seen in the area of Kings Highway and Ansley Street. Officers and a K9 are on scene attempting to locate the suspect. The suspect is a black male who may be shirtless. The orange shirt he had been wearing was found, but he could have had another shirt on underneath. I will send out an update once I have more.”

Decatur Police identified the suspect in a social media post.

Ross said more details about this case will be available later today.
