SUV catches fire in Avondale Estates, no injuries reported

Share

A white SUV caught fire in Avondale Estates on Wednesday night, but there were no injuries the Police Department says.

The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Sutton Place.

Reader Bob Craigmile sent in this photo and said, “I didn’t even know it was happening (no sirens) until I heard a boom (tire exploding I think).”

Police Chief Lynn Thomas said the driver of the SUV was, “returning home and noticed vehicle smoking upon arrival at his residence. He had the awareness to back the vehicle away from the building before it began to visibly burn. Fire responded and extinguished the vehicle, no injuries. Minor fire damage to the asphalt parking lot.”

He said the driver suspected a mechanical failure may have caused the fire.
