On Oct. 19, during the yearly EarthCraft Celebration of Excellence, Southface Energy Institute and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association gave City of Decatur and Decatur Housing Authority the “2017 Partner of the Year” award.

The partnership worked on developing Trinity Walk, “an affordable apartment community in the heart of Decatur, which officially opened earlier this month.”

“We are honored to have our work recognized with this prestigious award,” Decatur Housing Authority Executive Director Doug Faust said in a recent press release. “We believe in creating transformational communities that go far beyond bricks and mortar. In addition to incorporating energy efficient design, appliances and materials into the communities we build and manage, we look for ways to enhance the lifestyles of our residents through community gardening programs, play areas for the children, academic resources for students and mentoring programs.”

This isn’t the first EarthCraft accomplishment for Decatur Housing Authority, though. In 2012, Oliver House, a senior housing facility on Commerce Drive, was deemed the EarthCraft Multifamily Project of the Year by Southface and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association.

In addition, Trinity Walk will be given EarthCraft Multifamily as well as EarthCraft Communities certifications since the project meets “EarthCraft green building specifications.” More about the features of Trinity Walk can be found by clicking here.
