“The complainant witnessed the suspect shining a flashlight into a neighbor’s vehicle and then open an unsecured door and enter the vehicle,” the Police Department says. “The complainant immediately called police and provided a detailed description of the suspect. Officers arrived in the area and located the suspect running on Adams Street. A foot pursuit ensued through yards along Adams Street.”

Police caught the suspect in the 1100 block of Adams Street.

“A handgun in its factory case and a coin purse that were not missing from the vehicle on McKoy Street were recovered from the suspect,” the Police Department siad. “The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Dennis Williams of Decatur, was charged with entering auto, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, obstruction of an officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.”

Williams has been arrested on previous entering auto cases on Avery Street and Drexel Avenue within the past year. The Police Department said, “Please confirm that you are not missing a handgun in its factory case, even if you do not live in the McKoy Street or Oakhurst area.”
