Charles R. Drew Charter School at East Lake recently added Tribal Planet kinetic energy tiles to the entrance of the school.
These tiles are a renewable energy source that convert footsteps into kinetic energy, which are then used as an alternative generation source of energy for the school.
Here’s a video of the tiles in action:
Drew Charter School partnered with Tribal Planet to install renewable energy sources while creating “hands-on, project-based learning opportunities for students.”
The school’s students are able to follow kinetic energy gained from the tiles via a STEM-based mobile app or on a dashboard by the walkway as well as size up Drew Charter School’s kinetic energy levels compared to other tiles in use in the world.
While this is still a new technology, “the East Lake Foundation plans to expand the installation of Tribal Planet kinetic energy tiles at other Purpose Built Communities in the United States,” according to a press release.
