The 2017 Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby returns to Oakhurst for its 7th year on Oct. 7.

Last year, around 1,000 spectators came to see close to 100 kids compete in the race. The best place to watch the race is on Madison Avenue between Johnston Place and Bryan Place.

The derby welcomes families and is free to attend. A few of the local sponsors are Universal Joint and Oakhurst Market. Proceeds from the 2017 derby go to support Decatur Robotics.

Since 2011, the Soapbox Derby has brought in over $100,000 for children-oriented charities around the Decatur area, like Gigi’s Playhouse and Hagar’s House. Teams start arriving at 10:30 a.m. and the races begin at 1 p.m. There will also be food and drink vendors. For the full schedule, click here.
